Smoke on Sunday

On Sunday evening, the wind changed which brought the smoke from the Oregon Lakes fire northwest of Delta into Fairbanks. Visibility was limited to maybe a mile and the smoke smell was almost overpowering. By Monday morning the wind had changed direction and we no longer had the smoke. The fire is listed as "human-caused" but it is still under investigation.

On Tuesday morning, I rode the Ural to coffee at Sunshine Health Foods (they have a coffee shop inside of the store). It was raining when I left at 11 and wouldn't you know it but I had opted to not wear the Roadcrafter nor the riding boots. Live and learn. On Sunday, I got some of the details worked out for the Dust to Dawson, aka D2D, trip in a couple of weeks.

Of course, I hadn't done anything with the front porch yet beyond some measurements and looking up deck construction guidelines online. Such as recommendations on wood dimensions based on the free span. And the guidelines from Trex, the material that I'm planning to use for the surface of the deck.

  1. Ooooh, deck building. Wish I was there. Love the smell of fresh cut lumber in the morning.

    Post px on the progress.

    1. I was originally thinking of using Trex instead of wood for the decking itself. But due to the length of the deck, there would be a lot of wasted material. So I'm back to using wood. Probably pressure treated...

  2. Richard, just figured out that maybe none of my previous comments to your blog have ever posted. When using Safari, which is normal for me, it allows me to write the comment, then when I hit Publish, it disappears, never to return.... but if I use Chrome, like now, I can post.

I believe the same is happening on my blog since we both use the same hosting site. Have decided to post a note on my blog telling people to use Chrome to post comments, not Safari.

    1. I've not used Safari for blog comments on either the iPhone or the laptop for the same reason. On chrome, I need to disable the Ghostery extension for any site that I want to comment on as complains about Google+ and Google AdSense. I suspect that allowing those things on Safari will allow it to work again.

    1. The last couple of days I used the Sidi boots and the Roadcrafter. It's really not that much trouble. I was just being lazy.
