Wednesday - A 250 mile travel day got us to a Harvest Host in La Salle, IL. It is a quilting store and we are parked in the back of their parking lot. It’s a nice, shady spot that still had open sky to the north. This is needed for StarLink to be mostly unobstructed.
At 9pm, it’s still hot and muggy so the generator and A/C are still running. For almost 5 hours. I’m glad that I figured out the issue with the generator and the Victron Multiplus. The PowerAssist feature has been working great. With the generator, I have it set to 20amps and there hasn’t been a hiccup. The battery has been charging whenever the A/C compressor shuts off. Tomorrow is a shorter travel day into Indiana.

When I someday upgrade my 2000 watt generator to at least 3500 watt generator, then I will look into this power assist or soft start gadget for running the AC on a small generator. Is your AC noisy when running?
ReplyDeleteWe can hear it when running. I think it’s the same generator as you have. Onan 4500 gasoline mounted under the floor right behind the drivers door. The PowerAssist is a feature of the Victron inverter. Adding a SoftStart may allow you to run the A/C off of the 2K generator. That’s why most people install them. They get rid of the current spike when the A/C turns on.on the class A, I can run both A/C units on 30amp shore power.
DeleteI briefly looked into it, but the predator 2000 that I have maxes out at 13 amps so I don't think it will run the AC, soft start or not. My rig has the 4K Onan generator.
