This afternoon we begun the trip down to Chico, CA, for a wedding this Saturday. We, my mom and I, are travelling in my sisters Honda minivan. We had heard that there were several brush fires in southern Oregon but I didn't expect this much smoke. I'm told that the fire producing the smoke was near Diamond Lake in the mountains NE of Medford. The smoke wasn't even visible until we were around tem miles north of Medford on I-5.
Friends Dan & Judy generously offered to let us stay both on our way down and on the return trip on Sunday. I had stayed with them a few weeks back on my way to Crater Lake. Have I ever mentioned that I really like road trips?
What, you like road trips? I would have never guessed... ;-)
ReplyDeleteBig surprise, eh? It doesn't really matter where to or transportation type. Though it helps to not have a schedule. Destination (aka justification) is fine.
DeleteNice your friends are letting you stay again.
ReplyDeleteThe news has been talking about those fires, but hasn't really said much about the smoke. Hopefully it is better in Chico.
They are wonderful friends. I've known them since we were students at the University of Alaska about 33 years ago (that sounds like a really long time).
DeleteSounds like a fun time ahead....as to long time ago feelings...just recently was the anniversary of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait....25 years ago....feeling old.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the other family members again. It's rare that I've been able to make it to any of the family weddings. The timing of this one was good.
DeleteI've been told that I feel old because I am...
Not old Richard, just experienced! Glad you are enjoying your road trip. I'm sure it is even more enjoyable knowing there is no deadline to return ... well, except for the snow fall that will eventually come - but wait a minute, that doesn't even bother you! NO DEADLINES!!!!!
DeleteGotta remember that term, "Experienced".
