Day 1 - Fairbanks to Tok

Left mid morning from College Coffeehouse as you can see with all the video that Bridget posted. Filled up in Delta and arrived at my first stop at Tok, AK. Originally, I was to meet Jeff from Wasilla here but he had to cancel due to a memorial service of a close friend. He had reserved this nice wall tent at Thompson's Eagle's Claw Motorcycle Park just a short ways south of Tok. He transferred the reservation to me after he had to cancel his trip. Pretty deluxe and a nice way to start the trip. No wi-fi so just a short post.

There was a brush fire north of the highway. I hope it is not headed east towards the Taylor Hwy. 209 miles today and I just remembered to reset the totals on the GPS so I can keep track of the trip. Comparing the GPS mileage and the odometer, the Ural reads 7% low which means the fuel mileage is better than I thought. This means that today from Delta to Tok, I got almost 34 mpg! I'll be happy if this trend continues...

    1. Thank you! (Maybe that's where the 34 mpg came from!)

  2. That's the same wall tent I stayed in while transiting Tok on the way out of AK! Glad to hear the rig is running OK.

    1. She said that she remembers an orange/silver Ural a few years back.

  3. Just looking at the picture at first I wondered how you got a tent of this size stuffed in your Ural.

Looks pretty cosy. That's a tent size I could get accustomed to.

    1. There really is a lot of room in the sidecar. That was a pretty nice tent setup. Lots of headroom and cots but no mosquito netting.

  4. That looks like a happy little camping spot. You'll be spoiled for regular tent camping now.

    1. There was somewhere around 50 bikes there last night with most just setting up their tent in the woods. Due to the fires, there was a ban on campfires. Some were disappointed about that.

  5. I'd stay there a few nights! We can go camping in Tok next summer. I love you, safe travels.

    1. The Ural was a real magnet. Just about everyone wanted to talk about it. Most weren't aware that there used to be a dealer in Anchorage. I ran into Rodney this afternoon. He was the one with the grey Ural in Talkeetna.

  6. We stayed in the bunkhouse right across the road for the last three summers. Eagle claw is a great place to stay.

    Safe Travels.
