This morning brought clear skies and less wind. We had stopped in Wilmington, North Carolina, last night after a long day of torrential rains and strong winds. At least the temperatures were slowly climbing. This photo was taken at a visitors center in Charleston, South Carolina, and by then, it was a very pleasant 60°F. There was a long fishing pier here that extended about ¼ way across the river.
The visitors center made for a pleasant stop in a long day of driving. I hadn't realized just how far it was from Urbanna, Virginia, to Savannah, Georgia. Especially if you opt to not taking the interstate highways. The heavy traffic in the cities were the worst part of it and I think there must be a law prohibiting the use of turn signals as no one seemed to use them. If you see an opening in the next lane you just jerk the wheel snd move into it. By 5:15PM, we finally arrived in Savannah, Georgia, where we will be staying for several days.

I'm planning a ride up to Brunswick Georgia next week for a family thing. I am encouraged its getting warm enough Up North to be able to ride outside the sunshine state even if for just a few miles. What an odd winter.
ReplyDeleteI saw lots of motorcycles the last couple if days. Mostly cruisers traveling in groups. But it is sunny and warm.
DeleteFunny how driving "manners" change almost state by state. In some states that lack of signals would be cop bread and butter sport. The more dense an area, the less compliance with those little things...
ReplyDeleteEven among the police cars and DOT vehicles, maybe 50% used their turn signals.
DeleteRichard:
ReplyDeletewe also have lack of signal use here too & when signals are used, it is like they turn the wheel at the same time without looking
they are finally cracking down on cell phone use while driving. This morning I was following a car driving slow and not attentive at signal lights. when the light went green, the car just sat there . . .
I finally caught up and saw that the driver was using his cell phone.
I hope you find some warm weather in Savannah but I suppose anything is better than what is back home

I think the turn signal thing may be related to respect for others. After all, the only reason you use them is to communicate your intent to others
DeleteRichard,
DeleteThe turn signal thing is a real pet peeve of mine; I don't need your signal after you're doing what you're doing, it would have been wonderful to know what you were Going to do before you finished it. It's almost as if the car won't physically turn unless the signal is activated with the steering wheel movement.
On a much more controllable subject, have you seen the "90 years and 90 seconds" BMW video?
I have not seen the 90 year video though I saw it linked from the sheridesabeemer.com blog. I figured that I'll watch it when I get back home...
DeleteI am glad you found some sunshine and warmer temperatures. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the area since I've never been there.
ReplyDeleteLots of walking around, lots to see and sunny!
