New Projects

Projects. There always seems to be something that needs doing around the house. The next home project is 350 ft2 of laminate flooring. It'll be a major improvement over the old ratty carpeting that we've been putting up with for years since we couldn't make a decision on flooring. We already told everyone to block off the dates on their calendars. We'll see how it goes. Maybe I better start reading the directions. I think they're on YouTube...

This is a bit more on the fun side and not really a project. Bridget and I are heading out for a trip next month and spending a week in Japan and a week in Singapore with my sister and her family. New locations for both of us and definitely more fun than installing flooring.

Last week, I picked up a "smart charger" as my Odyssey battery didn't seem to have as much charge as it did when it was new. I have been using the BMW trickle charger for the last year and a half. This is the Pro-Logix PL2208 and is the cheapest battery charger recommended by Odyssey that will "condition" and de-sulphate their batteries. Before I used it, the voltmeter would read about 12.5v after riding around and crank kind of slow. Now after using this charger a couple of times, the voltmeter reads 12.9v and the bike cranks much faster. So it may have some impact on the battery and may extend it's useful life. According to Odyssey, 12.84v after sitting for at least 6 hours without a charger plugged in is considered a full charge

No additional work to do on the rig besides changing out the winter weight oil for the standard 20w50 stuff. Tonight is an Airhead "meeting" at the local micro-brewery. They want to see Dom's intake valve photos.

And good luck on the laminate. Make sure you all use white rubber mallets!

  2. I always wanted to go to Japan! Please bring lots of pics along.

You should have made use of Dom while he was around to get the flooring done ;-)

    1. Dom did volunteer to help install flooring or just about any other task that came up. A better guest would be hard to find.

    1. I think your visit was the motivation to do something. We've been putting up with the carpet for years waiting for some sort of consensus decision....

  4. If the laminate goes as easy as the cork did you will have no problems and it will go quick. It is so nice to have new flooring you will enjoy it.

How awesome that you and Bridget are going to Japan and Singapore. You'll have so much fun.

I was wondering if you would go see the family since they aren't in Corvallis for a bit. We miss seeing you come down for coffee when you're in town. We have an extra bike - you can still come and visit.

    1. We couldn't decide whether to wait until we figure out what to do with the kitchen or just put something in. Putting something in won out. All I hope is that it'll last a while and it'll definitely look a whole lot better than the old carpet.

I'm looking forward to the trip as neither of us have ever been to the far east. I will have an opportunity to visit Corvallis this summer. I plan on attending the BMW rally in Salem and stick around for a family reunion in Portland. There are a few days between the two events.

Nice to see everyone chipping in to help install the flooring.

I've heard good things about that Odyssey charger, you need all the help you can get in your cold temps

Your trip to Asia sounds like fun, and perhaps a bit too hot there when you are not used to that heat. Looks like you've got Summer planned out

    1. The charger isn't Odyssey brand but made by a company called Clore Automotive but is on the list of Odyssey recommended chargers. I suspect that it will be pretty warm but have never been to that part of the world before. Looking forward to it...
