Corvallis

Much of Saturday was spent sitting in JFK Airport as, for some unknown reason, Delta chose to route me through New York as the cheapest route from Washington D.C. to Portland, OR. After arriving in Portland, I was informed by the rental car agency that my drivers license had expired last week. Walking in a daze back to the terminal, I called the shuttle bus servicing Corvallis and hoped that they were still open. They were and after leisurely drive south, I arrived around 1:00AM but my body clock was saying 4:00AM. Maybe it's a good thing that I didn't try and drive.

The original plan was to meet Troubadour and Irondad at the range at Linn Benton Community College but without a car, that would have been a long walk. To the rescue comes Trobairitz who graciously picked me up and gave me a ride to the range. Sorry, no pictures of how Team Oregon in action as they pour safe riding information into their students. After a short visit with Dan during his lunch break, we then headed into downtown Corvallis for lunch. Here is Troubadour on his Tiger 800 after I missed the photo-op when he passed us up.

Better company would have been hard to find and we spent quite a bit of time talking after a feasting on the Indian buffet at the Evergreen Indian Restaurant. Trobairitz had even considering letting me ride her Gladius until she learned that I didn't have a valid drivers license. Thank you both for being willing to spend time with just a random person on the Internet.

Expired? Must be the Fates were looking out for you. Sorry for the time detour, but glad nothing bad could happen.

It was my pleasure to pick you up Richard. I really didn't mind at all. And we've known you long enough you aren't a random person anymore you are a friend.

It was great to see you again and anytime you are in town and want to go for a ride, let me know and Max is yours.

Thanks again for lunch. It was nice to be able to visit without all the noise from Saturday coffee. Come back soon.

Oh and hi back at you Lori!

I can't believe you let your license lapse ! I thought you were organized. Too bad you didn't get a chance to ride, but soon you will have your own bike there.

Don't you hate it when that happens? I've got a license renwal form sitting on my desk right now (bet I'll be doing it at the last second) ... But still good things came of it and you are back safe and sound.

On the way to Washington D.C., the same airline thought that I needed to sit in the Atlanta airport as well. After all, it must be on the most direct route from Seattle to DC...

Thank you again. I now have a valid license again. And yes, I walked to the DMV since I would've probably been pulled over for something if I had tried to ride or drive....

Very generous offers but I don't think I would ever feel comfortable riding someone else's bike. Especially one that has been named...

Thank you again. It was great to see you both again.

Organized!? You must have me confused with someone else... Actually, I'm still debating on whether to leave the R100RT down there next winter...

Yes, it was a great visit. Yes, NYC. You'll like this better. To go from Portland, OR, to Seattle, WA, I was routed through Salt Lake City. I think it would have been faster to drive.

So when are you headed to this continent?

If there was a renewal form sent in the mail, I never saw it. But it was a good reason to walk to the DMV from work this morning. Sunny and cold (below freezing). And the wait in the office was only an hour. Could've been worse.

Yes, it felt good to be looked after. And it was great to visit them again.

Well it least it wasn't Toronto, New York, or Texas. :)
