Ponta Delgado, PT

Thursday - We arrived in the Azores this morning at Ponta Delgado, Portugal cruise terminal. Actually, we are at the commercial terminal as the cruise terminal only has room for one ship and it is currently occupied. That means that we needed to take a shuttle to the street as the public is not allowed to walk within the commercial terminal.

We backed into the dock at 9:30 so we have about 8 hours at this port. We have no excursions planned and, if the shuttle process is quick and easy, we may wander around the town around the port.

First, I went to the completely deserted jacuzzi. Most people must’ve headed off the ship. It’s 72°F with a light breeze. Just about perfect weather. Scattered clouds so the sunshine comes and goes.

After a light lunch, we headed out to the shuttle buses. It turned out that there wasn’t much around the port area. Some restaurants and souvenir shops. One small grocery store and a drug store. And for some reason, a lot of banks.

There were a few monuments in the area but I wasn’t sure what they were commemorating. Many black and white buildings and black walkways. The black walkways and building material being basalt (I think). A volcanic rock.

After about a hour or so of wandering, we headed back to the ship for a couple more hours of relaxation.
