Seward Zip-Line

One of the reunion activities that I opted not to participate in was the zip-line. I think a large percentage of the attendees did participate including my mom to celebrate her 90th birthday. My son took the GoPro and attached it to his helmet and captured some footage including one the longest run. There was a lot of other video captured on the SD cad but most of it was standing around on the platform. Since it was a large group I suspect that there was quite a bit of that. The person taking off from the platform initially was my cousin's daughter, Moe, visiting from Japan. BTW, she's also the first one who asked for a sidecar ride.

I will assume that Bridget will add more photos to this post.

  1. Looks cool and fun. Did something similar as a cadet in the ROTC. Not quite as safe, you hung on to a t-bar, sliding down from quite a height (at least it seemed pretty high to me) but I was young and stupid enough to think it a cool thing. Part of "Recondo" training, you slid down towards the water and on command, released the bar and hit the water feet first...if you didn't release the T-bar you were holding onto would hit a rubber tire I think and you'd be forced to release I am sure. You were supposed to yell "Recondo!" on the way down, it helped with the fear factor. :)

I wonder, if it's still done, in this increasingly litigious age we live in....Army training or not. Oh, and the first part of the slide, there was a net underneath you, just in case your grip slipped I guess and you were too high off the surface of the water to safely fall into it.

    1. I suspect that the zip lines are the civilian version of the army thrill ride. At least without the jump into the water.

  2. Here you go: I don't remember wearing the life preserver but probably did.

  3. Great idea attaching the go-pro. I was surprised how long the longest ride was.

    1. The GoPro was Bridget's idea. Originally she was going to put it on her helmet but forgot to grab it when heading out.

  4. Good stuff, I still want to try this myself. One thing to overcome will be my fear of heights though, until then I'll continue to force myself up towers and viewpoints...

    1. In addition to the zip line traverses, I hear that there was some rappelling and rope bridges to traverse.
