Not quite as safe, you hung on to a t-bar, sliding down from quite a height (at least it seemed pretty high to me) but I was young and stupid enough to think it a cool thing. Part of "Recondo" training, you slid down towards the water and on command, released the bar and hit the water feet first...if you didn't release the T-bar you were holding onto would hit a rubber tire I think and you'd be forced to release I am sure. You were supposed to yell "Recondo!" on the way down, it helped with the fear factor. :)<br /><br />I wonder, if it's still done, in this increasingly litigious age we live in....Army training or not.
