Response: "What Gear Is Inside Your Gear?"

ChrisL at EverydayRiding posted all of the stuff he was carrying within his riding gear. I emptied out all seven pockets of my Kilimanjaro coat and two pockets of my riding pants and came up with three whole items. Only one of which is associated with riding.

A 1GB flash drive, a quarter and the motorcycle ignition key. I guess I don't use my riding gear pockets very much. I didn't include the shoulder and elbow pads as I didn't want to pull all of them out. Everything else I may need during the day I carry in the tank bag.

Today was our first sunset before midnight in quite a while. I guess it's the beginning of the end of summer...

  1. Do you feel any sadness or do you just take the early demise in stride? You seem so well adjusted to where you are I can't imagine you feel much more than a routine awareness of this is the way it is in AK.

    1. Nope, no sadness at the beginning of the end of the summer. That's just the way things are. I look forward to the cool days again as it's easy to adjust to cold than hot. Plus, summer still has a ways go. The fair won't be for a several more weeks and it'll be months before snow is on the ground again.

    2. That's where I'm at with the seasons. These next 4 months are my favorite and there's always hope for an extended autumn.

I'm like you Richard, very little in my pockets and like most of us, there are lots of them. I don't feel the need to carry the extra weight; I've enough of my own. The tankbag or equivalent is always along and that's where most of those things reside.

While riding, I try and keep my camera, uncased, in a pocket. Smartphone and wallet too. Oh, there's a little tripod that I never have the patience to use.

    3. If I need anything, I would stop by the side of the road to dig it out. I think that Chris carries more on him since he has multiple bikes and would normally need to shuffle things around. I don't have that "problem" as I just have the one. I guess you would have the same "issue", eh?

    4. Well, a combination of two tank bags work on all but the scooters and the Morphous has for all intents and purposes the equivalent of a tankbag. They contain my necessaries.

  2. Now that is minimalist. Either that or you need the important stuff at other time so they aren't kept in the jacket when not riding.

    1. Yep, a lot of small stuff like insurance and registration paperwork are kept in the fairing pockets. Between the saddle bags, the fairing gloveboxes, the topcase, the tank bag and the sidecar trunk. There's little reason to carry anything in my pockets.
