Santa Clause House, Weird Weather and +2x PBC

Today was another "day off". The quotes are due to the university just sort of declaring that they will be closed and staff can either use vacation days or leave without pay. A hardship for many especially those who have been with the university of a shorter time. Granted, it's an easy way to stretch 6 days of annual leave into two weeks off. Anyway, we went out to the Santa Clause House in North Pole, AK. Here, it's Christmas all year around. Lots of tourists and other visitors. Maybe I need to ride the Ural here tomorrow.

The temperature here in Fairbanks has been all over the place as anyone who have been watching my PBC videos. On Christmas Eve, it was -11°F then on Friday, it was up to +21°F. On Saturday, it was back down to -20°F followed by +15°F on Sunday. This is a screen capture from the Weather Underground app showing the dramatic 41°F temperature swing.

Below are two more PBC (Polar Bear Challenge) videos.

And all this time I thought Santa Claus lived in Canada! (I was wondering what the knocking/rattle sound was, perhaps the GoPro doesn't like the cold as much as you Richard.)

While watching the videos I wonder what people must say about you out in those temps on your rig.

I'm loving the PBC videos. And the Santa Claus house looks like a fun destination.

I wonder why the large swings in temperature.

Sure look alike a pretty winter wonderland in the videos. Easier to see in that second one of course.

All of the Santa Clause houses around the world are just alternative shipping locations kind of like Amazon has around the country. Soon, they'll just use drones for delivery ;-)

A lot of the GoPro videos seem to have that rattle when used on motorcycles. I'm not sure what it's from as the camera doesn't seem to move inside of the case.

With three wheels, those temps aren't much of an issue. It's days like today (above freezing) that are the real challenge.

I'll keep doing them when I have the time. Since the university is closed for another week, I have the time. The Santa Clause House is a popular destination and they have a special post mark for any mail that leaves there.

When the clouds move in, it's warm. When it's clear, it gets cold. At least that is my simplistic explanation. Today it's at or above freezing. The roads may be a little treacherous today...

Yeah, the first video is kind of dark. I'm looking forward to a fresh snow followed by a full moon night ride. Those are wonderful...

I like to see the different ethnic influences in AK. Road names, towns, etc. You are having fun with this!

Just wondering- Do houses have to meet tougher building standards because of so much snow?

I think I heard what that guy in the truck said when you passed him...

Yep, enjoying this PBC video thing. If nothing else, it's getting me out on longer rides.

Houses in the city have to meet building code but once you are outside city limits, it's only a guide not a requirement.

So what did he say?
