I will wait for cooler weather before removing the plastic solar panel mounts and sealing up the screw holes with Eternabond and Dicor. The roof also needs a good cleaning.
Sunday - I finished up the DC-DC installation today. I installed an MRBF fuse on the positive battery terminal and ran a 6 AWG cable from there to the input of the DC-DC charger. I picked up the common ground model as it was a little cheaper. Plus, I didn’t need to run a separate ground wire from the start battery. After setting it up via Bluetooth, I tried it out. It works as advertised. Up to 30amps to the SOK battery when the engine is running.
The stock AGM battery was only 80ah and you could only use about half of that without damaging the battery internally. The SOK battery has about five times the usable capacity but the addition of the inverter adds new capability but potentially.
Richard, Jan Daub here. Have a question for you. What are you reading and hearing about the US/Canada Border crossing for those riding/driving to Alaska this summer? Anything changed yet?
ReplyDeleteI read an opinion that Canada is looking at placing tariffs on US vehicles driving north on the Alaska Highway. Have you heard that?
I turn 80 in May and plan to make one last final sidecar ride from Key West to Prudhoe Bay, or take the AMH ferry north to Haines and start the ride in Deadhorse. Either way I will have to deal with several US/Canada border crossings.
I wasn't sure if you drove your RV back and forth from AK to the AZ or not.

I have not heard anything definitive yet. The RV to Alaska Facebook group is always pretty current with great moderators. I had heard that commercial traffic to Alaska will be impacted with tariffs but hadn’t heard anything about non-commercial traffic.
