More Smoke

I'm not really sure where all of the smoke is coming from but it looked kind of grim this morning. Not at all like it was yesterday. From what I'm hearing, the smoke is from the Funny River fire down on the Kenai Peninsula some 300+ miles to the south. Rarely does smoke get across the Alaska Range but I guess there are some pretty strong winds from the south. This is the same fire that was filling the air with smoke in Talkeetna over the weekend.

I did take some video on my trip last weekend but didn't process any of it until today. Here are a couple of short clips starting at Healy Canyon and the bridge over the Nenana River. Note the windsock when halfway across the bridge. After a short time, I noticed the battery on the GoPro remote was dead and it was too long of a reach to the camera. It is mounted on a Ram mount fastened to the upper sidecar strut. The Ram mounts seem much more stable than the regular GoPro mounting options. I'm still looking for a better camera location.

Looks like you guys are going to have a heck of a forest fire season this year.....

Unfortunately, I think you are right. Everything is really dry just waiting for someone with a match or lightning.

Just as I was reading about your smoke, I was smelling smoke from our toaster oven as my home-made pizza was being burnt to smithereens.

I bought the GoPro remote but I don't use it I use RAM mounts and I mount it on my left handlebar so I can turn it on and off with my left hand and I can turn it a full 360°

Sorry about contributing to your burned pizza. I like that the GoPro remote mimics the display that's on the front of the camera so it really doesn't matter where the camera is located. I'm thinking of doing what Canajun did with the Arduino micro-processor. At the same time I may add a cylinder head temperature readout from the same processor.

Forest fire season, scary. We've had too much rain in the Black Forest lately, so currently there is no major threat. But you never know what tourists are capable of...

I wonder if you would want different mounting places for your GoPro. Sometimes it is nice to get different perspectives, or even a picture of you riding with a big smile ;-)

There was an article in the paper that claimed that 13 of the last 21 fires (all in the last 3 weeks) were caused by cigarette butts. I had thought that most of our fires were lightening strikes.
