It's Even Worse Today

I thought it was bad yesterday. Last night it rained and just about everything is closed. All classes are cancelled at the school district and the university and the police are warning everyone to stay home. Of course, the university said that they were still open for business. This was to avoid having an administrative closure and having to pay everyone for the day. Now, if you can't make it in you need to take vacation or leave without pay.

Just for reference, here is the view from the newspaper webcam today. Pretty grim. I don't think I'll take the rig out today. In fact, I may not even walk outside today. On a positive note, in the first photo you might have noticed that sunrise will be at 10:02am today. The days are quickly getting longer.

    1. Too bad there isn't a live version of Google Earth. Or should I say, a civilian version...

  2. I'd take a little warmth, but you can keep the rain until April! Rain on top of all the snow, plus frozen surfaces must make everything like a skating rink, YIKES..

    1. I think the road crews are getting the Zamboni out in the intersections just to make things interesting.

  3. Yikes! When I was younger and, uh, less experienced, I had more that a few adventures driving on roads like that.

Staying indoors as much as possible is the wisest choice, I suspect.

    1. Looks pretty grim in that photo of downtown. I've driven on roads like that but had tire chains.

  4. Richard:

You're nearly warmer than us AND you are getting all of our rain. So far we have been rain free for weeks, when usually it rains all the time

doesn't look good with all that water/flooding with ice below

    1. You can keep the winter rain. In January, it causes a lot of problems.

  5. now that is icy! I bet you could do like Chris Luhman and spin the rig through the intersection as he is known to do on frozen lakes....

    1. Maybe, but I don't want to try. It's relatively easy to start but very difficult to maintain with the studded tires.

  6. Lookin' slick ... just like Kingston a couple of weeks back, now we're just coming out of another Arctic vortex -41C with wind chill on Wednesday.

  7. Holy Hannah! That looks scary! I think I'd wear skates to get around. Cannot be good trying to navigate anywhere.

    1. Normally at this time of year the roads are in really good shape. The cold weather brings great traction and almost no ice. Not this year.
