Palm Springs, CA - TT

Tuesday - A short travel day to Palm Springs TT park. Traffic wasn’t too bad though I must’ve been passed by a couple of thousand vehicles. I think I passed only a couple of trucks. It was challenging to find a parking spot as the park is pretty full. It would be easier with a smaller RV.

I’m trying out the StarLink pole mount as just setting it on the ground wouldn’t work very well due to crowding. Speeds are pretty decent at 300+ Mbps down and 25 Mbps up. Plenty for what we do.

Tuesday - Today’s adventure was the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, once billed as the 8th wonder of the modern world  The upper or Mountain Station is at 8,500’ or about 8,100’ above the valley floor. I hadn’t been here since ~1980 and I remember very little from that backpacking trip.

The tram moved very fast compared to the one in Albuquerque and one of the unique features is the spinning floor. It makes two rotations on the trip to give everyone a view.

After a light snack, we went to several overlooks and even though there were clouds between us a the valley, the view was pretty phenomenal. It was cool at 46°F and with the 15mph breeze, our outside stays were not long.

We spent a couple of hours wandering around before catching a tram heading down. This is the counter weight to maintain tension on the cable. The drive is at the bottom and it pulls the tram car down. So the downhill car doesn’t swing much when passing over the towers.

On the way back to the RV park, we stopped at Sherman’s Deli for some dessert. Another stop to run the Jeep through a self-serve car wash. You can’t tell that I had just washed the Jeep a couple of days ago. It’s dusty following the RV.

The coconut cream pie from Sherman’s Deli was fantastic. Half of it was a lot of dessert. More for later in the week!
