Blogger "Comments"

I don't know about others but I have been regularly getting generic "comments" left on blog posts. Not obvious spam but the text of the comment is so generic that it doesn't relate to the contents of the post and the name is a link to a commercial site. Following the instructions on this site, I edited the Blogger template to disallow links in the comments. This disables the backlink that these commenters were looking for supposedly to improve their Google ranking. The following was added right before the end of the body block.

Our weather hasn't really changed much and wasn't really conducive to doing anything outside. Even the heated garage was hovering around 40°F so no bike work was done beyond digging out the battery tenders. I did need to reinstall the plow since we've gotten about 8" of snow since we've been back from PA.

There was a great turnout on Monday evening for our last Airhead meeting at the Silver Gulch. I believe that 20 people showed up. Several harassed me since I didn't ride out.

  1. Heated to 40 degrees doesn't sound to appealing. I'm not sure the coffee pot could keep up with that. Did anyone ride to the meeting?

    1. Nope, no one else rode to the meeting. But I think this was the first one that I haven't ridden to in years...

I noticed this morning that I could see a little light under the door. I should adjust it so it closes tighter.

  2. I too have been getting the generic spam. I just delete any comments that have link in the name or a link back to a non-blogging site. Seems a lawyer in Pennsylvania is a popular one leaving those.

Your temperatures do not sound pleasant. We finally went below freezing last night. First time since February.

    1. I have been deleting the PA lawyer ones as well. It's just annoying and, to me, another less blatant version of spam. Especially given the behavior of changing the name though the link is the same.

    1. I was just annoyed. It'll probably stay this way for a while.

  4. sometimes, its ok when folks leave a link, say to a reference site or a different posting or to a manufacturer....I'll just continue deleting the obvious spammers.

pretty cold here today, temperature is staying around 12F...very brisk.

    1. Posting the link is fine. It just doesn't need to be clickable.

12°F, eh? Some snow too or is it just cold?

    2. 1" or 2" at most! Disappointing

  5. I try to catch them before allowing them to post, but one got past me the other day. I'm not blogging that much, but they still show up. :)

    1. After I implemented the change, several comments showed up and were promptly deleted by the commenter. Hopefully, they just go away...
