I moved up from southern California to Fairbanks Alaska to attend graduate school in physics at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Since then, I have been an employee of the university generally in Information Technology since 1984. I was adjunct faculty from 1987 to about 2007 teaching classes in programming, networking and eventually taught CCNP certification classes for our Cisco Academy.
This blog originally started as part of a university wellness program to encourage employees to start walking for exercise. They asked a few of us to blog about our activities and to set up some geocaches around campus for other walkers to search for. The blogs were supposedly a way to encourage others to get out on the road. These days, the more common theme is motorcycle related activities, repairs and maintenance. In 2007, I took the MSF BRC and picked up a 1983 BMW R100RT motorcycle. This has become a wonderful hobby and, at least when there is no ice on the roads, my transportation. I do end up travelling as part of my job here at the university and posts about my experiences usually find there way here as well.
