Day 57 - Idaho Falls, ID

Another short post as today was another travel day. We went from Rock Springs, WY, to Idaho Falls, ID. From one Walmart to another. This particular one was described on the AllStays app as as very RV friendly. Quite a change from all of the Walmarts on the Pacific Coast. Near the Wyoming border, we stopped at Fossil Butte National Monument as the visitors center was only a few miles off the highway. It was interesting and we got another stamp in the national park passport book.

At 5:30pm it's 86°F in Idaho Falls and after Colorado, it feels pretty warm. Our next camping reservation is on Monday west of Glacier National Park. According to Google it's about 440 miles and we still have two more days to get there. Right now, I'm thinking of staying in Deer Lodge, MT.

  1. If you decide to stay in Deer Lodge, I highly recommend the old Deer Lodge prison. They have a self guided tour (paper map) and a decent car museum in the old prison cafeteria. I went there for the cars but I think I liked walking around the prison just as much. Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is only about 25 miles from Deer Lodge and has a nice small water park.

    1. We are at the Deer Lodge KOA (kind of a runndown park) but priced right.

  2. So, besides asking the manager of the walmart for permission to overnight there...do they mention any other rules? Slides OK? Generator use? etc....

    1. No rules were stated. The norm is no jacks, awnings, or lawn furniture. Slides only if they extend where no one would walk and generally no generator. Two nights ago a class A was running a generator and before long, they were gone.

  3. At least your temperatures aren't as high as they were in Utah.

  4. We stopped in Deer Lodge on our trip in 2015. Interesting little town. We just stopped for lunch and a walk around town on our way to West Glacier from Billings.

    1. A nice, small town. The prison right downtown seemed odd to me but it was the same in Cañon City.
