Does Not Get Much Better Than This!

Another beautiful, sunny day in a week of nice days. Except for a slick spot this morning where melt water was running across the road on top of ice, the riding has been fabulous. No heated anything needed anymore and back to my regular gloves. No real destinations, just a lot of running back and forth around town. This morning while at College Coffeehouse, DavidR, an avid rider (understatement here!) said that he needed to put together an intervention when he found out that I was not planning on riding at all during our upcoming road trip.

Even the slab of ice in the middle of the driveway is starting to disappear. With all of the sun what better time to try and see what I can do with the battery bank. I prepared all of our meals on Thursday using just solar power. It took yesterday and today until 4:30 to fully recharge. And this was from a single 130 watt panel. Sometime this weekend, I'll start run a manual equalization cycle then partially disassemble the system for transport. Only three more weeks before I start my road trip!

    1. Unfortunately, no riding for the road trip. Though I'm planning on bringing a bicycle it isn't quite the same...

    1. Lot of folks around here are happy to see the warmer temps. Though, breakup means the beginning of "mud season".

  3. Meanwhile in Southern Germany: Cold, rainy and windy. Happy Easter if you are into this ;-)

  4. Feels great when you walk out the door and finally are greeted with something weather-wise that doesn't make the body clench up.

Have fun flying through the world!

    1. The transition to colder temperatures happens so slowly you don't really notice it until it's not there anymore. Isn't there something about a frog on a stove… It doesn't notice the change in time to jump out until it's too late.

  5. "No heated gear". So funny to hear different perceptions. I'd probably still be using the heated gear at 48 F. :) But I'm sure that is terribly warm for you, given the temps you have been in. :)

    1. It's probably something like that. In fact, yesterday it was getting so warm (45°F) that I even dispensed with the fleece liner and just used the Roadcrafter as a wind breaker. It felt pretty nice.

    2. I still turn on the heated grips at 45F. Once it's above 50 then they are used either. I'll use the same winter riding jacket until the temperature is above 70F.

    3. Maybe I have gotten used to cooler temps. I haven't used the heated grips, gloves or liner for several weeks.

  6. We're just a week or so ahead of you here. Last bits of ice and snow on our driveway will probably be gone today and tomorrow. Then it's just a couple of days until the mud dries out and I can get that first ride in. Of course if I had 3 wheels that would've happened a month ago. :)
Three weeks, huh? That will fly by and before you know it you'll be on the road. Looking forward to following your travels.

    1. Once the snow starts to melt it goes pretty fast. Especially given how much snow we've had this year. Yep, only three weeks and a whole lot to do before then.

  7. I wonder if you'll go into withdrawals while on your RV road trip? Fear not, each time we meet up you can get a riding fix on my rig...assuming it's running of course! :)

Will you and Bridget be using SPOT or something similar to let us stalk, I mean, keep up with your travels?

    1. Not sure. I guess I should see if the service is still active.
