Afternoon Activities and iOS 9

At Troubadour's suggestion, I had contacted Aerostitch about the velcro on all of the pocket flaps on my Roadcrafter Light suit. All of the hook side of the velcro has partially disintegrated and has come loose. Also one of the four velcro pads that hold the back pad has became unstuck. They said that it should be covered by the two year warranty and to send the suit in. But it really needed to be cleaned first as it was pretty filthy after my road trip. One of the suggestions on the net for getting some of the stains out was to soak it in Oxiclean before washing. The Oxiclean directions said to soak heavily stained items for up to six hours then wash normally.

So that is what I'm doing this afternoon besides consuming Internet bandwidth by updating my iPhone to iOS 9. In case you hadn't noticed, I added ads to this blog since I was curious about the ad blocking behavior of Safari on the new version of iOS. This new feature from Apple has folks all over the Internet whining. So far, I installed one free extension called Crystal from the app store and it works really well. No ads and web sites finish loading much faster. And you use less of your mobile data. Sounds like a win for all iPhone and iPad users and a lose for all those who wish to track you on the Internet ignoring your selection of "Do Not Track".

It has been raining off and on for the last week and it is starting to feel pretty dreary. Since the Ural is dead from a failed hall sensor, I have been riding the Beemer sidecar rig. With the Beemer, I'm a lot more constrained as to how much stuff I can pick up. Nowhere near as much room and a very limited amount of locking storage. Especially since I still have the car battery installed in the sidecar.

  1. When's the powerarc unit supposed to arrive? Or are you still debating the issue?

  2. Oxi clean you say! I'm going to have to try it. I was thinking about taking my riding gear to the local fire department and asking if they'd run it through their gear wash, but then there's something about the grunge that say's I've been used, really used and I'm proud of it! "Gear Grime, the motorcyclists badge of honor!"

    1. I'm surprised at how clean it came out. Not like new but it was really pretty dirty. There is still traces of oil stains but even most of those came out. The last time, I just used the TechWash and it didn't work as well as the OxiClean soaking.

    2. Good to know the OxiClean trick. I hadn't thought of it for gear.

    3. I should have added that after the 6 hour soak in OxiClean, I then ran it through the wash with the TechWash then again with the NixWax Tx.Direct Wash-In which is supposed to revive the breathability of the material.

  3. Cleaning your gear will destroy the protective layer of dirt that you worked so hard for...

    1. It doesn't look anywhere near as filthy as it did before. And I think that the layer of dirt would hold moisture onto the material.

  4. Not to be trivial, but in my world, the killer of Velcro is dog hair. Velcro is the wonder of my world and dog hair is the destroyer.........

    1. No dog hair at our house. (I'm told that our dogs don't shed) The velcro isn't anything critical except maybe the one that holds the back pad in place. It just holds the pockets closed and covers the waterproof zippers.

  5. iOS upgrade... necessary but not something I look forward to, unless there are cool new features. The ad blocking sounds interesting. I like the irony of running Adsense on your blog only to test ad blocking in iOS.

    1. The ad/content blocking works pretty well and significantly speeds up the display of web content. But it requires some tuning. E.g. I am unable to reply to comments on the iPhone with the content blocker in place.

  6. So that's why I can't Comment on my IPhone? I'm in agreement with Karen about saving the dirt...but full disclosure has me once every couple of years doing the NixWax process. Long ago I spent the weekend with my parents, mom was so proud of the fact that she washed my Belstaff suit....it was never the same after that and I had been so very proud of IT. Waterproof protection is what I hope you now have Richard.

    1. Still trying to figure that one out. As I was able to comment on other blogs just not mine...

After my road trip this summer, it was pretty grungy. Plus, the directions for repair said that it needed to be washed before shipping...
