Videos

Just another short video showing a normal winter morning ride.  This is a little after 7:00am on Monday, about -3°F, and about the normal morning traffic. The snow from a couple of days ago still hasn't been cleared and the video starts down our subdivision road. Unlike the last video, I cut out it down to a couple of minutes. The music is from Google's royalty free music site.

Monday evening was the monthly get together of the Airheads at the Silver Gulch microbrewery. I made another GoPro video of the trip out there as the roads are even darker (no streetlights). I was also hoping to see another moose cross the road in front like I did over the weekend but no such luck. As you can see, there isn't a whole lot of snow removal being done. The traffic just sort of packs it down.

Nothing very exciting or new. Just playing with the camera. The video does show the lighting in front of the bike. Between the new H4 headlight and the Piaa led fog lights, I'm pretty satisfied. I don't really feel like there is a need for the Denali D1 driving light like I did with the Beemer rig.

    1. Actually, not very cold at all. After the week of negative teens, above 0°F felt pretty nice.

  2. Pretty cool videos. Were you in 1 wheel drive? I think I would find myself wanting to try to slide the sidecar in the snow.

    1. Yes, all in 1WD. No problem at all with traction. The only times I seem to need 2WD is for really deep snow and hills but you really lose directional control with the front wheel acting more as a rudder and steering is done by shifting your weight between the pegs.

  3. Cool videos. The night riding videos just look so surreal to me.

Those lights do look like they light everything up enough, I think you have a good combination of them.

    1. Riding at night is now the new "normal" with sunrise at around 10:30 and sunset at 2:40. With all the fresh snow that fell yesterday, I left a bit early to catch some daylight.

I'm satisfied with the amount of light on the road. So much better than the BMW.

  4. Uuuh, looks chilly! Ok, call me a California wimp, but to me -3F IS chilly. Cool videos & music. So peaceful!

    1. Thank you! It was a very peaceful ride. Things are nice and peaceful during and after a fresh snowfall. It really absorbs the sound. Even the motorcycle seems quieter.

  5. I believe I wouldn't mind riding in the snow, in fact I enjoyed your video very much. Not sure I like the pitch black though. How about getting in some riding in daylight?
The Ural however, seem to agree with your riding. A match made in heaven, as they say.

    1. I'll try to ride in the daylight but not many opportunities. There is this whole "work thing" that tends to interfere with my day...

  6. What's wrong with me! I love to drive and glide in snow. I'll always have a love for winter...to some degree. ;^)

Great editing, excellent music choices, too. I like seeing the campus all lit up.

    1. Nothing wrong, snow could be fun. I wasn't too sure after having to clear the driveway several times over the last couple of days.

The campus is all lit up for Christmas as well. The facilities group has been out decorating trees and buildings. Pretty subtle this year with only blue or white lights.

Thank you on the video. I was aiming for only a couple of minutes and most of the trip is boring...

  7. I'm not much if a fan of videos but your has a strangely compelling quality, managing to express the pleasure of the ride. Even though I wouldn't be caught dead on a motorcycle, not even a hack, in such conditions.

  8. Richard I have to reiterate the above comments, I'm really enjoying your videos of riding in the snow and at night. How have you got the GoPro mounted - it seems so smooth (no vibration.)

    1. Thank you, this time of year it's kind of hard to avoid snow and dark. The GoPro is mounted to the left turn signal stalk. And I think the smoothness is a result of the ultra wide angle lens.
