Almost Tropical

The earlier trend of warmer and warmer weather continued. This morning, it was 30°F here in interior Alaska when the normal would be well below 0°F. Whenever it gets really cold in the northern states (such as ND, MN or WI) it really warms up around here.

I did manage to get in another PBC video in as it was still below freezing when I had left the house. I started to head up the Ester Dome road but the rear wheels (not plural) were spinning a lot. But still went 59km of not really going anywhere except wandering around Fairbanks. This morning, there was a temperature inversion where it was warmer at higher elevations and cold in the valley. I considered restarting the video when it was 20°F (10°F cooler than it was at home) but thought that that would be pretty petty. On the way home, I could feel the frozen rain drops hitting my visor.

    1. Really, maybe I've been living here for too long...

  2. Good riding to end the year....minimal traction even with studs.....wow.

Colder than usual around here last few days, confirming your observation that things getting colder "down south" comes with warming trends up there.

    1. When it gets warm up here the roads get treacherous. Once the snow starts melting on top of really cold ground, we get layers of ice.

  3. You ride the Ural so much that when you get into your truck you must feel like you are in a military tank!

    Pretty sky today.

    1. My son feels that way when driving the truck. Or maybe likened it to be as maneuverable as a tanker...

  4. You woke to warmer temps than we did. That doesn't happen very often at this time of year. Woke to 26 yesterday morning and 19 this morning at our house. Brrr. You won't see many, if any bikes out today in these pets.

Happy New Year to you and Bridget and family.

    1. Damn you auto correct, "you won't see many bikes out in these parts" (not pets).

Going to be one of those days hmmmm?

    2. Not too many pets on bikes either. We did notice that it's colder in Corvallis than Fairbanks. My mom came here for the warm weather.

      Alaska, the new Florida.

  5. No,no,no,no,no.
Frozen rain disqualifies. Not Florida at all. Really. Anyone planning a vacation in Fairbanks needs to know. Plus I'm told they have mosquitoes as big as helicopters.

    1. Would the NY Times lie? The link is to an article that states

"Alaska is going to be the next Florida by the end of the century."

But you have alligators. I'll take the mosquitos...
