South of Malibu

It was 94°F at the hotel where the reunion is going to be held at. After checking in, my sons and I headed to the coast (Malibu) to try and find some cooler weather. We ended up going through the mountains on the infamous Mulholland Drive. I had grown up hearing of this road in stories and lyrics but I don't remember ever looking for the road itself. There was some road construction but it lived up to its reputation and would be a great motorcycle road. We came back on a different road a bit further north (missed the turn) and found an even better road.

We then headed south towards the less populated area and found parking on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway)  along a low bluff overlooking this stretch of beach. The temperature in this area was a much more tolerable 79°F with a nice breeze. A great place to spend some time walking up and down along the waters edge. Maybe this trip won't be all that bad after all. On the way back after missing our turn, we passed the much more famous beach at Malibu and the whole area was packed with cars.

    1. Yep, you said it. Tiresome. Where's the challenge to survive in 78°F temperatures unless you want to consider the traffic...

  2. As close to paradise on Earth as can be found. All the material and cultural advantages of the US, perfect temperature, perfect blue sky, swarms of beautiful people, entertainment capital of the world, and the list goes on...

    1. Keep talking and I may be convinced. I still have a hard time seeing past the horrendous traffic, the heat and crowds everywhere.

  3. I don't think I could tire of the ocean ... traffic yes, temps of 94 yes but the ocean, never. Enjoy your vacation.

  4. It does look like you found a perfect spot to wander, better temperatures at the ocean too.

    1. It was a nice place to walk and sit around watching the waves. It seems that much of the beach is inaccessible where it runs past miles of private houses with no beach access. I'm not sure the beach is actually private just inaccessible.

    1. We spent the morning near the coast again and it was much more pleasant than further inland.
