Fresh Snow

The forecast was for a couple inches of snow but I think that we may be getting a bit more than that. It is heavy enough for visibility to be down to about ¼ mile or so. No beautiful sunrise today though we are already up to almost eight hours of sunlight which translates to about ten hours of daylight. No more riding home in the dark.

I usually cover the bike with the tarp when it's snowing or freezing rain just to keep the carb cables from freezing. Last winter, there were a couple of times when the enricheners wouldn't move due to ice and this seems to be an easy solution. On Monday, there were numerous times when you can feel the rear tire losing traction. I had thought that maybe the air pressure was on the low side but it was fine. I guess we really could use some fresh snow as the ice remaining on the road was on the slick side.

I ended up running across town this morning running errands. It's amazing how nice it is to ride on fresh snow.

When we are as cold as we are. We set a record for our coldest Feb 6 since 1948 at minus -8°c, it won't snow until we get the warm air from Hawai'i and the temps go back up to just above freezing which is Sunday, when we are expected to get a spiff of snow.

at least with snow, you will get more traction instead of on the slick ice

    1. The temperature here is about the same. The fresh snow brought some warmer temperatures. Riding around today was a real blast as by shifting your weight around you can move the back of the bike around even while cruising down the road. Lots of under steer but as long as you're ready for it, no problem.

    1. Unless it gets too deep, light powdery fresh snow is wonderful. Nice to ski in as well though I haven't done too much of that lately.

    1. At least this is a short month. Maybe you can drive with all the windows down.

Riding through the snowfall this morning was almost mesmerizing. You could see the snow moving up and over the windshield when the high beam is turned on.

  4. Richard if you like riding on fresh snow you should ride down to Ontario ... we seem to re-fresh the snow every day, yup it's snowing again. I'm gettin' a little tired of driving in it, but glad you're having fun.

    1. Fresh snow everyday could be a drag as it would never get cleared. And this is the light, fluffy stuff. Not very dense at all.

  6. Have you talked to your mom since yesterday? We got 10 inches of snow. Even the court closed. Another storm heading in this afternoon.

As I took the bus into work I thought it might be fun to ride the XT in the snow. Oh no, it must be contagious.

    1. 10" of snow! Wonder how long it'll last? It is contagious, you need to try it. Fresh, fluffy snow is the best especially if it is still coming down.
