Fickle Weather

Another post about the weird winter weather. Today, it's 55°F warmer than yesterday. Supposedly, we are at the edge of another winter storm but it all it is predicted to bring are clouds and warmer temperatures. But that means that it's warm enough to ride again. All it took was a couple of days at -38°F to convince your body that +17°F is really nice. Almost tropical. The warm temperatures did make it difficult to get up the driveway. Maybe I need to change out the screws. The studs don't help much on loose snow but you can feel (and hear) them on ice and there is still quite a bit of that.

Putting on the Finishing
Touches
I'm sitting in my office now trying to stay focused and awake. That is proving difficult due to the building potluck lunch. Lots of turkey and other Thanksgiving treats. Of course, I brought a traditional Thanksgiving favorite, Mediterranean quinua salad (thank you Trobairitz!). It picked up a lot of compliments especially from those that were looking for something other than turkey, ham or any of the more traditional items. Even a short walk outside didn't help much.

Sunset today is at 3:20. Maybe I should call it a day if I can't get myself to wake up...

  1. Too cold for me and not enough sun light.

    1. Sunlight is overrated…

Only 1 more month until the days start getting longer again!

  2. Richard:

I am still waiting for turkey. We did not have turkey during our Cdn Thanksgiving and now I have to wait until Christmas. I am dreaming of turkey and stuffing but so far none on the horizon

I was thinking that with +55°F warmer it was going to be warm, but if it only got to 17°F it's still much colder than we ever get here

    1. Turkey is easy to make and relatively cheap. If you have a freezer it'll keep for quite a while.

These large temperature swings seem odd.

  3. That's pretty funny about eating turkey and being sleepy. I can't imagine that everyone who ate the turkey wasn't nodding off! Maybe tea and chocolate cake after that would help, but only for a while- "Sugar high, sugar low".

Your webcam this AM shows 2 degrees. Our windchill is 6. It's simply cold.

    1. At least that's what I'm going to blame it on. I'm not sure about all the other days when I feel sleepy…

It feels like around 2°F this morning. I rode in for coffee and maybe take some pictures during daylight.

  4. Ya know, I bet a short ride in the -30s would have gone a long way to clearing away the tryptophan-induced sleepiness! See, yet another benefit of sidecaring in the snow and ice.

    1. I think that cold makes some people shut down and feel tired. You may be the 1 in a million that feels energized with cold weather.

  5. Glad everyone liked the recipe. If the veggies didn't wake you up, you need more coffee.

Having experienced -38 both in Edmonton and Montreal I could see how 17 would feel tropical. We woke to 22 this morning and I have assimilated into the Willamette valley and it now feels cold.

    1. After an extended cold spell it isn't unusual to see the shorts come out at the university when it gets above 0°F again.
