Rainy Weekend

Another wet weekend with cool, foggy mornings and maybe a little bit of clearing later in the day. The leaves are just starting to change but we don't get the incredible display seen in other parts of the country. Just yellow and brown. No shades of red or orange. Construction activity had this particular road closed to the public for a couple of years and I noticed that it has been reopened.

There was a ride scheduled for last week but only two of us showed up and we rescheduled it for this week. This time, I was the only one who showed up. I'm sensing a trend here. I was asked if I was going to announce a "end of the season ride" on the local BMW riders email list. I wasn't sure as it isn't the end of the riding season just yet.

It really is starting to feel like Autumn these days with morning temperatures in the high 30s to 40s (°F). There is a lot more traffic these days on my morning commute since the university is now in session. But the good thing is that, with the exception of my building, motorcycle parking is almost always empty and available so it's easy to run errands on campus. This was just a phone pic from our deck showing the remaining fog over the weekend. When it wasn't raining, it was foggy.

Saturday evening was spent at a geocaching "event" at Pioneer Park, aka Alaskaland, run by a local cacher. He set out numerous caches, scavenger hunts and kids activities. It took us a while to figure out that these stickers were the caches set out. Bridget and I teamed up with two other folks and before the last challenge, we were in first place. We ended up in third place but only because we "bet" half of our points on the last question. There was a good turnout with maybe 25 people there. Someone asked me if I was lost since I was wandering around with a gps.

you can feel summer slipping away here too. Warm during the day but much cooler at night.

Third place isn't bad at a caching event, unless of course there were only 3 of you

    1. I think the summer started slipping away last month. The State Fair is sort of the beginning of the end of the summer. We already had our first frost and this morning, all of the windshields were wet (but not frozen). In some areas of town, a lot more of the leaves have already changed and Saturday was the last day that many vendors intended on selling at the farmers market.

  2. Fall and winter come all to quickly it seems and eventhough it is still warm here I am dreading the rainy wet to come. I should try my hand at geochaching it sounds like fun.

    1. Geocaching is one of those outdoor activities that you can do no matter where you are. And, if nothing else, gives you a reason to go out for a walk.

  3. Fall is coming with big leaps, although temps over here are not as harsh as they might be in your neck of the woods. Well, as long as riding is possible, I am not complaining.

    1. Hard for anyone to complain with the beautiful Fall weather. I will probably stop riding for a couple of weeks during the "transition period" when some cage drivers (I use that term loosely) start learning how to drive again.

    1. Ouch! I don't see how you do it. Hopefully, things will improve soon (improve=cooler).

  5. "Are you lost?" Too funny! Around here we say, "We know what you're doing ...."
The fall colors seem to be coming on earlier this year (or maybe it's just my imagination.) The last few evenings have been very cool and the mornings have arrived with heavy dew on the car windows. Heated seats in the morning - air conditioning in the afternoon. That's our transition period, but the worst is the shortening days. Enjoy every moment while you can.

    1. Occasionally, I see someone hanging around where I know a cache is located and have been tempted to stop. I think that the Fall colors are right on time. We've had our first snow by the middle of the month before and usually the leaves are mostly on the ground by them.

  6. I think we all needed a little rain in this half of the USA so I bet all the plants are happier for it.

I like the view from your deck. Nice to see the trees and woods and no neighbors right behind you.

Nice that you have the motorcycle parking pretty much to yourself.

    1. There are neighbors but you can't see them. The minimum lot size in this area is one acre. I like that. The problem is that most of the motorcycle parking is marked May 1 to Sept 1. There are a few exceptions like the one next to campus security. But normally, they don't clear the snow out of that space. Maybe I need to carry a snow shovel in the sidecar.

  7. It was a delicious 62 degrees on the ride into Downtown Denver this morning....and a high of only 70 is expected! I think Fall might have gotten here, finally!

So, the object is to find the pictured sticker?

    1. Nice, that's about the ideal temperature. Way better than the 90s you were reporting just last week.

In this geocaching "game" the goal was to find the pictured stickers and write down the work. There was a time limit of 80 minutes to find everything.
